MANILA, Philippines – Seven-division world champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao kicked off his Sunday (Monday in Manila) by hearing mass at the Christ the King Church in Los Angeles, California. He was joined by his wife Jinkee, mother Dionisia, his siblings and Team Pacquiao members.
According to Pacquiao, all his successes inside and outside the boxing ring are graces from God.
Towards the end of the mass, the priest and the mass attendees prayed for the victory of Pacquiao over Mexican Antonio Margarito in “The Event” on Saturday (Sunday in Manila). They prayed for their boxing hero’s guidance and protection.
Meanwhile, Pacman fans mobbed the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion after the mass.
“Masaya, nakasimba kami,” the boxer-turned-congressman said. “Happy ako… Nandooon rin mother ko.”
Dionisia, for her part, expressed excitement over her son’s upcoming fight at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. “Mabuhay si Manny talaga,” she remarked.
Pacquiao relaxed in his LA home the whole morning of Sunday.
He went through 2 weeks of rigid training in LA where he reached his 100% condition, got his killer punch and speed, and mastered his strategy against Margarito.
Aside from training for the fight, Pacquiao also rehearsed for his post-fight concert with his MP Band. It will be held at Lake Tahoe on November 16.
Margarito arrives in Texas
Pacquiao’s opponent, meantime, already arrived in Texas via American Airlines from Los Angeles, California.
Margarito, who was accompanied by his family and team members, was greeted by his fans at the airport.
The Mexican and his entourage proceeded to rest at the Gaylord Texan Hotel.
The former WBO, World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion is expected to hold a media workout event the following day.
