MANILA, Philippines – Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao seemed to prefer to fight Mexican Antonio Margarito on November 13 instead of having a rematch with Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto. “Maganda ‘yun (That's good),” Pacquiao said when asked about his possible clash with the former World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion.
Pacquiao, the reigning WBO welterweight champ, said he might even consider fighting Margarito at junior middleweight.
“[Lalabanan ko siya sa] 150-147 pounds. Mga ganoon (I'll probably fight him at 150-147 pounds. Around that weight),” he told ABS-CBN Correspondent Dyan Castillejo.
The Fighter of the Decade added that he is also open to the possibility that he might slug it out with Margarito in Mexico.
“Walang problema. Excited din ako lumaban sa Mexico, first time ako lalaban doon (No problem. I'm excited to fight in Mexico, it will be the first time I'd fight there),” said Pacquiao.
While his November 13 bout has not yet been finalized, Pacquiao is certain that he will train in Manila and will go to Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California 3 weeks before the fight.
‘Ignore the Mayweathers’
As for the prospect of facing Floyd Mayweather, Jr. despite their fight negotiations falling apart, Pacquiao said: “I don’t know. I don’t have an idea right now.”
He also commented once again on the latest tirades hurled at him by Floyd's father, Floyd Mayweather, Sr.
The elder Mayweather called Pacquiao a “little Filipino midget” and “one of the biggest faggots on the planet.”
“Hindi natin puwede nang patulan ang taong ganiyan. ‘Pag pinatulan, parang ka-level lang natin sa utak niya. Baka may diperensya na. Hayaan na natin na ‘yan ang ugali talaga nila na ‘di marunong rumespeto ng tao. Eh tayong mga Pilipino, ipakita natin na tayo’y marunong rumespeto kahit sinumang tao,” he said.
(It's better that we ignore those kind of people. If we trade with them, we'd be stooping down to his level. Maybe something's wrong with him. Just let them be as they don't seem to know how to respect people. We Filipinos should show them that we know how to respect others).
